Follow My Lead

People often feel nervous and uncomfortable when speaking to someone living with cancer, which can lead to unintentionally saying the ‘wrong’ thing, something inappropriate or, worse still, not saying anything at all. That’s why we partnered with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation for the great campaign ‘Follow My Lead’.

People across the UK with lung cancer informed us of how they felt about the language used around them. They most disliked those terms that conveyed pity, such as ‘I feel so sorry for you’, closely followed by ‘you’re so brave’, a ‘victim’ and ‘lost their fight’. Many also resented having their life-partner described as their ‘carer’. However, what enthuses some is loathed by others.

Drawing on the feedback, we collaborated to develop this poem, which aims to be humorous and thought-provoking, to open up and improve conversations around lung cancer. Listen to John discuss this on Sky News.

FarMEr

Farming is not just a job, it’s a way of life which comes with its unique stressors and risks. While working in the countryside can be rewarding and calming, it can also feel isolating.

John partnered with the Farming Community Network in Maldon District to go back to basics and improve wellbeing with a hog roast, a drink and a good old yarn. This is the kind of safe, entertaining, community feeling we can also bring to you, tailored to the topics and needs of your audience.

Fairness, inclusion and respect

This talk/workshop focuses on challenging unconscious bias and promoting allyship to foster an LGBTQIA+ inclusive environment.

Acclaimed author, counsellor and comedian Michelle Bridgman is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and alongside other Happy To Health You partners, deliver bespoke talks that engage, captivate and encourage attendees.

Mere diversity isn’t sufficient; true inclusion means employees feel they belong in their roles, in their teams, and within the organisation. Yet, achieving a strong sense of inclusion remains a challenge. Many companies grapple with implementing effective programs that tangibly enhance employees’ feelings of belonging. Well, this is a talk that screams “you belong here!” to everyone in your workforce.

Putting U in customer care

A bottom-up approach to providing a great service, this session encourages all staff to feel part of the team. This full or half-day training is much in demand for apprentices, frontline workers, and all levels of leadership.

Speak up

Public speaking is a scary business - as stand-up comedians, we know! Glossophobia, or a fear of public speaking, is very common and affects 3 out of 4 people, but our team can guide you through any talk, presentation, seminar or speech.

Natasha and John are seasoned veterans of the comedy circuit as well as radio presenters. With our expertise in communications and personal experience, we have a range of options designed to help you develop your natural skills. We will guide you to overcome your anxiety, ride your emotions and find your inner voice.

These talks cover everything from breathing, posture and eye contact to how to write and deliver that keynote, knock-out talk.

Follow the leader

Leadership is much more than managing people, and our 60 or 90-minute interactive presentation - suitable for different levels of seniority - gets participants exploring their own beliefs, challenging misconceptions, and learning how to be more effective.

We look at the connection between leadership and performance, the role of power and influence and how it affects team dynamics, how to resolve conflict, encourage and influence by example. Emotional intelligence and behavioural safety are also highlighted as key to the leader’s toolbox.

This crash course aims to improve overall performance and bring teams together so your business can be an empowering, high-performing environment.

The MEN in menopause

We want to help and understand. But most of us men just don’t know how. We deliver this presentation to educate about menopause, understand the changes men also go through and consider how this all affects our mental wellbeing, our relationships and our lives.

Who is looking after MEn?

Men have poorer health, die younger and report higher unhappiness levels than their female counterparts. These interactive and adaptable sessions are based on our award-winning men's health projects.

Dad’s health matters

As a new dad, connecting with fellow parents who get it can be a game-changer, but dads still need support as each age brings new challenges.

Our Dad’s Health Matters talks give men the opportunity to share in a safe space. We discuss anything that’s on their minds, from mental health challenges like withdrawing socially or feeling unexpected worries, all the way to parental alienation and societal expectations of dads.

Swap stories, share hacks, and plan easygoing outings, like a refreshing stroll. It makes a world of difference.

The Way Through

1 in 6 men have had unwanted sexual experiences. This can cause problems, even many years later, but they don’t have to just live with it, there are things they can do and people who can help.

We were commissioned by 1in6 to help deliver ‘The Way Through’ campaign. The aim is to raise awareness of this fantastic organisation which supports and advises men who have had unwanted sexual experiences.

John Ryan has been meeting with survivors who have shared their stories to learn more and deliver material that is sensitive, empathetic and meaningful.

Man v Van

We can develop informational and campaign videos on a variety of topics - here, Driving for Better Business commissioned us to write and produce a short video titled “Man v Van”.

We used humour to impress on drivers that checking their own mental health daily is just as important as checking their vehicle. Natasha and John assembled the production team and the result is this simple but effective piece.

The CALM Driver campaign has already secured the support of both large and small fleets and courier companies.

Bridgeway podcast

Natasha Donovan appeared on the Bridgeway Podcast to discuss the importance of talking about women’s health, including menopause and how it affects women inside and outside the workplace.

SERVES – Acting Out

John Ryan created a bespoke workshop to talk about mental health with veterans after leaving active service.

Women’s Health Matters

We deliver an adjustable, no-holds-barred presentation or training session covering all aspects of female health, from screening to menopause in the workplace. By building trust and discussing things with honesty and humour, we aim to raise awareness of the unique health issues women face.

The young ones

We combine interactivity and storytelling to get children up to the age of 18 engaged in mental wellbeing, with clear, actionable advice that helps them be proactive in fulfilling their needs and seeking support.

Beat Stress – Men’s Health Forum

We partnered with the Men’s Health Forum to create an online chat and email service for men to talk about things that are causing them stress. With health and wellbeing professionals on the other side, we were able to offer support and signpost to services anonymously and confidentially.

The service was set up through a grant from the Bupa UK Foundation, in response to the crisis in middle-aged men’s mental health.

#MindYourself

We’ve collaborated with world-leading university King’s College London for years to deliver artistic sessions that promote health and wellbeing to students. In the #MindYourself format, these sessions culminate in a night of prose, music and poetry, to celebrate and support these positive outlets.

Dying To Talk About It – TED x Talk

Mental health awareness through comedy in construction sites

As discussed in this Express article and in the BBC Radio 5 Live video above, we meet workers where they’re at to make mental health awareness more accessible and use humour to make the message stick.
